Leanne Moore

 Where are you now...

Tell us about yourself?

My name is Leanne Moore, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Limerick! At the moment I’m one of the finalists in RTE’s You’re a Star competition so life is a little manic, but in a good way! When I do get time off (rarely) I enjoy going to the gym, walking, or being active in general! For relaxation, you can’t beat a cup of Hot Chocolate and a magazine!

Tell us about your time in Mary Immaculate College?

I really loved my time in MIC. In forth year especially I lived and breathed the college life! In first year I studied Geography, Psychology, English and Theology and majored in the latter two. I always wanted to eventually become a teacher so for my co-op year I spent the time in Presentation secondary School in Limerick. That year confirmed my desire to become a teacher! I haven’t yet started my H.Dip as I entered the You’re a Star competition but I’m hoping to start it this coming academic year!

One memory that stands out in your mind from your time in MIC?

My most memorable moment in MIC was the day we finished our final exams of forth year! We were all exhausted from the late nights and early mornings but we managed to enjoy the celebrations! In all, Forth year was the highlight of my college years!

A member of staff who had an affect or made an impression on you during your time in MIC?

Fr. Michael Wall and Rik Van Nienwenhove were two lecturers that made a big impression on me in MIC. I always really enjoyed Theology as I found it so interesting. Fr. Wall was also my FYP supervisor and pushed me to do better at all times.

What changes would you like to see within MIC?

I’m not a very political person so I wouldn’t know or be aware of any changes that should take place! I would have loved a full size gym though!

Do you maintain a relationship with MIC today?

I haven’t been up to MIC in over a year but my sister is now a first year Arts student so she is creating enough mayhem I’m sure!

What is your current occupation?

At the moment I’m working as a pre-school teacher in Poppins Pre-school Professionals in Limerick City. I work with children aged between 2 ½ and 3 ½. I took a year out to be able to take part in You’re a Star and also save the money for the H. Dip!

What are your hopes/ plans for the future?

Right now I just want to give the competition my all. Singing is my first love so I want to give it a fair trial! If those dreams don’t come true I hope to return to college in September and do my H.Dip so as to become a secondary school teacher!

If you were president of MIC for a day what would you do?

Hmmmmmm? I think all the presidents both past and present do an exceptional job! I could never be so organised!!!!!

If you could quickly sum up your time in MIC or have any advice for MIC students what would it be?

I just want to say to all the students…….. Enjoy your years in MIC. Work hard and play hard. Find a balance and enjoy!!!!!

Also, watch You’re a Star on RTE1 Sundays at 6.30 and vote STAR 13!
