Spotlight on . . . . Michelle Moroney

Tell us about yourself?

I am a native of Inagh, Co. Clare & am living here once again. I spent the first four years of my career teaching in Presentation Convent Primary School, Portarlington Co. Laois. I was appointed Principal of Doolin N.S., Co. Clare, in September 2006. I love the job and enjoy the challenge.

In July 2008 I got married to a Laois man! This year I was selected by Fianna Fáil to stand as a candidate in the upcoming local elections. Its certainly keeping me busy but I am enjoying it.

Tell us about your time in Mary immaculate College.
I loved every minute of my time in MIC. I made great friends there! Fantastic social life, The Globe, Doc's, Larry Murphy's, The Lodge etc were where we spent our Tuesday & Thursday nights! I studied for a B.Ed & graduated in 2002.

One memory that stands out in your mind from your time in MIC.
There are so many funny moments that happened during my time its hard to pick one – Rag Weeks always stand out though.

A member of staff who had an effect or made an impression on you during your time in MIC?
Mick Healy – Geography 1st Year

What changes would you like to see within MIC?

An increase in the male population!! No lectures during Rag Week!!

What are your hopes and plans for the future.
I hope to get elected to Clare County Council in June and bring about improvements for the people of North Clare.

If you were president of MIC for a day what would you do?

I would give everyone the day off!

If you could quickly sum up your time in MIC or have any advice for MIC students what would it be?
My time in MIC was the best few years. It flew by though. My advice would be to make the most of it, don't panic too much about TP, especially microteaching (1st years) get involved in the different aspects of college life & enjoy it all!
