PARTNERSHIPS FOR LEARNING: SUPPORTING INITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL

MIC St Patrick’s Campus Thurles
9.30 - 15.00
Saturday March 4th 2017

This one-day, free event, will be of particular interest to school personnel such as principals, deputy principals, cooperating teachers, mentors and all who support initial teacher education in both our schools and higher education institutions.

We hope the day will give you an opportunity to hear of current practice, share your own practice and be inspired to consider future actions that support those beginning their teaching career. We believe there are strong and reciprocal links between teacher learning/school improvement and supporting initial teacher education. We also believe greater and deeper partnerships and collaboration between colleges of education and schools is essential if we hope to create a quality learning environment that supports the learning of all pupils.

The event aims to be a discursive day and will involve engagement with Professor Teresa O’Doherty, Dean of Education MIC as well as with Tomás Ó Ruairc, Director of the Teaching Council. Special guest will be Emeritus Professor Barrie Bennett (OISE, University of Toronto) and key consultant with the Instructional Leadership Programme. Barrie’s work originated in Canada with efforts in making stronger links between teacher education programmes and the school personnel that support school placement. The day will also involve a series of concurrent workshops by practitioners and others and will conclude with a plenary session chaired by Tomás Ó Ruairc.
